Parents/Grandparents Sponsorship

The Parents/grandparents program mainly examines the situation of the sponsor (that is, the children/grandchildren who are a Canadian citizen or PR), including:

  • The sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or PR.
  • The sponsor must be over 18 years old.
  • The sponsor is resident in Canada, not overseas. It should be noted that in spousal sponsorship, Canadian citizens can sponsor their spouses when they live overseas, but it does not apply to Parents/Grandparents sponsorship.
  • Financial situation: The family income in the past three years meets the requirements. Family size is taken into account when calculating. For example, a couple with two children is ready to sponsor two parents; the total number of people you’ll be responsible for is 6 people.

Application process:

  1. Sponsor express their interest in sponsoring their parents/grandparents when the program is open.
  2. IRCC will randomly issue invitations from the candidate’s pool. It works similarly to a lottery. Those who are selected will continue to the next step.
  3. After being invited, the applicants (parents/grandparents and the sponsor, co-signer if possible) should submit the application material within the specific time.
